Ford Recalls 1.6 Million Vehicles with Dangerous Defects
Ford Motor Company is recalling almost two million vehicles with safety defects that are responsible for accidents or near-misses. If you own a Ford vehicle, then we encourage you to keep reading so you can determine if your vehicle has an unfixed recall.
Recall #1: 2014-2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ Vehicles
Ford’s first recall affects 1.3 million 2014-2018 model year Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. According to Ford, these vehicles may contain faulty bolts that cause the steering wheel to detach or loosen from the steering column. The affected vehicles were manufactured at Ford’s Flat Rock, Michigan and Hermosillo, Mexico plants.
Several consumers
published their complaints about this defect on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website. In some of the complaints, consumers reported the steering wheels falling off while the vehicles were in motion. Ford said the defect is linked to two accidents and one injury.
Recall #2: Ford F-Series Trucks and Ford Expeditions
Last month, Ford announced a recall for 350,000 trucks and SUVs due to a dangerous transmission issue. The recall covers more than 290,000 vehicles sold in the US. According to Ford, the defect may cause the vehicle to continue moving when it is in park.
The vehicles contain a defective clip that locks the gear shift cable to the transmission. Ford said the clip is not firmly in place in the affected vehicles. As a result, these vehicles can shift to a different gear without warning.
Ford is aware of one reported accident and injury caused by the defect. The recall covers 2018 Ford F-150 trucks and 2018 Ford Expedition SUVs with 10-speed automatic transmissions. In addition, the recall affects some 2018 Ford F-650 and F-750 vehicles with 6-speed automatic transmissions.
What If My Vehicle’s Defect Causes an Injury or Death?
Car owners may not always receive recall notices from their manufacturers. Automakers must send recall notices, but there are reasons why you may never get the message. We encourage you to read our
